Manchester United make surprise addition in provisional squad against Arsenal

Manchester Evenings News (MEN) reports Manchester United have made a surprising addition to their matchday squad. 21-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Bishop makes a cut as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares to host the Gunner at Old Trafford.

Manchester United signed Bishop in January earlier this year from South end United.

As regular U23 keeper Matej Kovar is sent out to loan at Swindon Town, Bishop took the reigns. He made his debut in under-21s EFL Trophy victory over Salford City in September.

Less than two months have passed by and he’s already making first-team provisional squads.

When Red Devils’ goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis saw Bishop in United’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella, Spain, he described Bishop as:

“Ambitious, athletic, hard-working, and mentally strong”

United’s goalkeeping departed is stacked up. David de Gea is no.1 and Dean Henderson is no.2

Lee Grant is a backup option but it is understood he’s little role to play in the first-team picture and would leave the club very soon.

Sergio Romero, on the other hand, is being mistreated by United. He’s one of the best keepers available in the market but United didn’t cut a loan deal with Everton on the deadline day. United should’ve but asked for more money – something Everton wasn’t ready to pay.

It’s hard to predict Bishop’s career trajectory but he’s making serious progress and earned Solskjaer’s trust.
