Joe G. Kibe is the new chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons of Murang’a after he was unanimously elected by council members on July 16, at a meeting held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
Mr. Kibe, a financial and governance expert replaces Dr. Charles Rubia who passed on in December last year.
Dr. D. Nyamu-njoka will continue serving as the council’s secretary while Dr. Peter Munga will continue serving as the coordinator.
Other members of the council include Royal Media Services Chairman Dr. S. K. Macharia, Bishop Gideon Githiga, Maina Wanjigi, Amb. Solomon Karanja, Muthoni Likimani, Nicholas Ng’ang’a and Prof. Lucy Irungu.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia congratulated the chairman-elect wishing him success in his new role.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, through CS Macharia, urged the council to continue with its good work of seeking peace and development both in Murang’a County and the country at large.
President Kenyatta has been closely following the activities of the council.
The Council of Eminent Persons of Murang’a was formed in 2015 and registered as a company limited by guarantee in 2018.
Its mandate includes building and sustaining broad political consensus, peace, harmony and social cohesion among the people of Murang’a County and the Republic of Kenya.
The Council is also mandated to promote and support development projects that it may initiate and or initiated by other leaders for the good of Murang’a County.
The Council will also identify and honour sons and daughters of Murang’a County who have excelled in their respective areas of service.
According to the group, membership to the Council is by invitation only by the Board of the Council depending on but not limited to one’s service to the community.
The other conditions for invitation to The Council are:-
1. The Nominee should be men and women born and bred and or married in Murang’a County.
2. They should have served the Nation in the Public or Private sector with distinction and with an eye on Public Good.
3. They should have gained wisdom that comes with age.
4. They should not be looking forward to offer themselves in any elective political office
5. They should be men and women of integrity who will not bring The Council into disrepute.
