Following the outbreak of Covid 19 in the country, Wajir county has been carrying out preparedness measures. So far, the county has not reported any case and is in preparedness mode.

The following are the preparedness mitigation measures carried out towards covid19 outbreak by the department of Health as of 26th march 2020.

1. Formed Emergency Response committees at
โข County level
โข At all the subcounty headiquarters
2. Isolation wards identified in the following health facilities
โข Wajir county referral hospital
โข Bute subcounty hosp
โข Habaswein sub county hosp
โข Griftu sub county hosp
โข Tarbaj sub county hosp
โข Eldas sub county hosp
โข Khorof harar Sub County Hospital.
3. Visited by MOH national team to inspect readiness in setting up isolation and quarantine facilities
4. Sensitization of the public through PAS is on going
5. Distribution of hand washing facilities
6. Premises in CBD are complying by providing hand hashing facilities
7. Sensitization of health workers on covid 19
8. Following the presidentโs directive, H.E Amb. Mohamed Abdi issued directive on public gatherings

9. All the CHMT educated the community on the importance of social distancing and the following measures were adhered to
โข All the sub county teams practiced social distance during the ERT committee meeting
โข Closed all DSTV joints
โข All mosques were closed including the one in Eldas
โข Boda boda to carry only one passenger at a time
โข No weddings
โข Taxis to carry only two passengers
โข No overcrowding in CBDs
โข Hotels offering takeaway services
โข No playing of soccer
โข Miraa ban.
โข Funerals to be attended by 15 persons

โขAll border points
โข Leheley police barrier
โขLafaley border points
โข Specific hotels eg Wajir Palace

11. Sensitized religious leaders
12. Procured emergency medical equipmentโs
13. Set up emergency call centers with mobile numbers
14. Distributed 5 full PPEs to all the sub counties
15. Identified quarantine facility at Wajir MTC
16. Procured IEC materials
17. Enforcements done on certain hotels not complying
18. Nyumba kumi iniative activated to report persons from counties with active transmission
19. Sensitization of the public through the local FM before and after prime time
20. Team work between NGAO and health personnel displayed across the county.
