Isiolo Senator Hon. Fatuma Dullo led a delegation of the Senate Committee on Land in three most affected areas of Soi and Leparua in Burat Ward and other areas such as Chumvi yare in Ngaremara ward as the tussle over land ownership between the communities and KDF escalates.

Sen. Dullo candidly stated that the envisaged evacuation should be stopped forthwith until the rightful owner and process of acquisition is duly verified.

Hon. Dullo further reiterated that in case the government wants to acquire the land, due process of the law must be followed and ensure compensation be done in an holistic manner. Hon. Dullo emphasised the said belongs to the community and it was gazetted in 1922 as ‘Disease free zone area’.
Senator Dullo assured the residents that forceful evictions violates very tenets of the Constitution of Kenya as neither the community nor the County Government was not consulted on the said land issue. The Senator asserted that she will petition the President and the Senate on the outright injustices pertaining to the land row between the peasants community and Kenya Defence Forces.

However, when contacted by the Whispers Isiolo county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri declared that evacuation notice will still be enforced and those ocupying ‘KDF land’ must evacuate. Evacuation countdown has entered day fourteenth day.
